    Nuku'alofa, Tonga
    : A donation of $5100 pa’anga was made to the Alonga Adult Disabled Centre, at Pea on December 8. Tongan artist Uili Lousi collaborated with the New Zealand High Commissioner HE Sarah Walsh in this initiative and presented the cheque to Lavinia Satini, the center’s coordinator with residents present. The amount was raised from the sales of artwork by Lousi.

    : A new Tropical Tunas Bridging Measure was adopted in the early hours of this morning, after a marathon session by the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission meeting in the Philippines this week. The Chair and the Executive Director today issued a joint statement on the outcomes of the 14th annual meeting of the Commission, which also include a Conservation and Management Measure on Pacific Bluefin, bycatch mitigation strategies and conservation measures on marine pollution.

    : Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) have threatened to pull out of the Western and Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC) if the fishing nations and coastal states who make its membership fail to agree on new rules for all-important tropical tuna. Current rules for the fishery – known as the Tropical Tuna Measure – expire at the end of this year.

    : Tonga's Land Court ruled that a private money lender, the Wallaces, had no legal interest in the lease or in the proceeds of sale of a property lease held by Lucy Ana Ilaiu. In making the ruling the President of the Land Court, Lord Chief Justice O. G. Paulsen warned that it is not open to persons to use legal processes, such as the procedure for lodging caveats, unreasonably or for improper purposes.

    : Two serial thieves who were jailed earlier this year for robberies committed in 2015 and 2016 – Rodney Toki (21) and Tevita Vaka (29) – have both had their prison sentences extended after the Supreme Court of Tonga found them guilty of committing a break-in robbery in May last year.

    : The Tonga Under 20s rugby team scored a last minute try to force a draw against Fiji 26 – 26 in the final of the Oceania Rugby U20 Trophy on Saturday 2 December in Suva, Fiji.
