    : Taulanga Nonu was jailed for five and a half years for serious housebreaking, theft and serious arson of the Teta Tours building in the Central Business District. His co-accused, Molitoni Moimoi was sentenced to three years and two months in jail. The Lord Chief Justice considered that Nonu had destroyed property worth no less than $1 million, while Moimoi had a deplorable history of previous offending.

    : Tonga's Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Lord Tu'i'afitu, is under pressure to resign. The Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku revealed yesterday in a media briefing that he is “having conversations” with the noble regarding his resignation from his ministerial portfolio. Although the PM did not state it directly, his comments suggested that the King in Privy Council has allegedly lost confidence in the minister.

    : Multi-million loan agreements for energy projects have been signed by Tonga, Solomon Islands and the Asian Development Bank last week, to help the transition from dependency on diesel fuel imports to renewable energy. The projects, also supported by a grant from Australia, will help Tonga to meet its 70% renewable energy target by constructing a new 33 kilovolt (kV) electricity network.
