Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Firearms imported with over 15,000 rounds of ammunitions with no permits, were seized in the three months from July to September 2025, following x-ray scanning and physical examinations by Customs Officers in Tonga. The items were imported by seven consignees (five men and two women). -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A Tongan man and two Chinese nationals were fined $10,000 pa’anga each, after they pleaded guilty to two counts that included unlawful possession of 14,754 beche-de-mer (sea cucumber) in Talau, Vava'u, while a moratorium on its fishing was in place.

Fujian, China : During a state visit to China, King Tupou VI planted "Friendship Grass" at the National Engineering Research Center of Juncao Technology, during his first stop at Fuzhou, capital of Fujian Province, at the weekend. The Royal party has also visited Ningde, a city known for sustainable development and clean energy innovation, and the Museum of the Terracotta Warriors, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A poor turnout saw less than 50% of registered voters casting ballots today in Tonga's General Election. They have returned ten out of 17 incumbents, and elected six newcomers, including one woman, to enter parliament, with one former representative regaining a seat. The Prime Minister Hon. Dr 'Aisake Valu 'Eke retained his Tongatapu 5 seat with 72.93% of votes in his constituency – the highest polling candidate.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Lord Nuku, has been eliminated from the Noble's candidates for Tonga’s General Election, "due to pending legal matters,” the Electoral Supervisor Pita Vuki said today. The final tally of registered Tongan voters closed at 64,707 but only Tongans present in the country can vote for the People’s Representatives in tomorrow’s General Election. Vuki is hoping that turnout will improve on the 2021 election when only 61% of voters turned out.

Nuku’alofa, Tonga : A special shipment carrying 50,000 litres of petroleum - enough for one day’s supply on Tongatapu - is expected to arrive in Nuku’alofa on Wednesday - a day ahead of Thursday’s General Election - and bring relief to a severe shortage of petrol that has fettered the capital for the last week. The Prime Minister Hon. Dr 'Aisake Eke said Tonga's two main suppliers, TotalEnergies and Pacific Energy, were collaborating on distribution efforts to ease queues at service stations.
