HM Queen Nanasipau’u and Princess Eliana presented gifts to the Paediatric Ward at Vaiola Hospital, including new furniture, colorful sofas, chairs, a child-sized table and a gift basket for the young patients.

Princess Eliana had spent some time in the children’s ward as a patient this year where she noticed the deteriation of the furniture in the ward and wanted to help.

When she was discharged, she told her grandmother that it was about time that the furniture at the children's ward was replaced.

“She reminded me that it might be time to replace the sofas at the ward for the children and she told me ‘Mama, can you try and get it so the kids can play with them during Christmas’  - and that’s why we’re here today,” Queen Nanasipau'u said.

Dr. Flora Lutui said that the new furniture brightens up the ward.

“The children, as you would know, are here because they are unwell. Having this beautiful, brightly colored furniture really lightens their day and helps them when they are well enough to come out and watch TV.”

“We used to have tables that were a bit higher, but this table is much better for the children as it is at their level. They can sit and do their coloring and activities, which is something Princess ‘Eliana did when she was here,” Dr Flora said.
