Tongatapu's Hihifo District is sparkling for Christmas, where villages are lit up with extravagant lights and festive decorations ahead of Christmas this year.
They join the Hahake District where many homes are covered with Christmas lights and decorations.
A hihifo local, Lu’isa, told Matangi Tonga that these decorations are not only for Christmas but also for the upcoming celebrations of 200 years of Christianity in the country.
“Christianity was accepted here in Hihifo on 26 June 1926 and that is why we’re participating in this year’s festivities – leading up to next year’s celebrations,” she said.
The Christmas lights and festivities can be seen starting from Nukunuku and ‘Atata Si’i to Ha’atafu.
