The Tonga Football Association's 2026 Major League competition has officially begun, with Nukuhetulu facing Veitongo in a spirited contest under clear and sunny conditions, in an opening round at Veitongo, today, Saturday 6 June.
Both sides displayed determination and attacking intent as they fought to secure valuable points in the opening round of the competition. The match showcased a blend of experienced campaigners and younger talent, reflecting the diverse age groups represented throughout the league.

Players from both teams demonstrated confidence and commitment throughout the encounter, setting the tone for what is expected to be a competitive season.
Six matches were scheduled across two fields as clubs from around Tongatapu battled for early points in the annual men's competition, which provides opportunities for eligible players from across Tonga to compete at the domestic level.

The Major League remains one of Tonga's premier football competitions and continues to serve as a pathway for local talent to develop and gain valuable match experience.
Twelve teams have been confirmed for the 2026 season: Folaha, Lavengatonga, Lotoha'apai, Ha'amoko, Nukuhetulu, Veitongo, Marist, 'Atata, Lapaha, 'Ahau, Ha'ateiho and Fahefa.
Several fixtures in the opening round were decided by default after opposing teams were unable to fulfil their scheduled matches.
