    : Historical film footage of the visit by Queen Elizabeth II to Tonga in 1953, and her friendship with Queen Salote, is shown in a new 58 minutes long documentary film, broadcast for the first time on BBC One in the United Kingdom last week. It will broadcast again on April 12 in the UK. Presenter George Alagiah's journey starts in Tonga, one of the furthest-flung stops on the Queen's first Commonwealth tour in 1953.

    : Flag bearer and boxer, Magan Maka, dressed in traditional tau'olunga costume, led Tonga’s contingent of athletes to a loud cheering crowd at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games held at Carrara Stadium on the Gold Coast, Australia, last night. King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau’u Tuku’aho are at the Games to support the team.

    : Rain is slowly easing today on Tongatapu after a bout of heavy rain, which has fallen almost continuously since the end of last week, causing widespread flooding especially in low lying areas. Roads around Nuku’alofa were still flooded today, although the water should start subsiding as rain eases over the next few days.
