Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Tokaikolo Church (Siasi Tokaikolo 'ia Kalaisi) claimed back the ownership of church buildings on a property in Kolomotu'a that was being used by a break away congregation, after winning an appeal against a 2017 Supreme Court decision, on March 26. The appeal was against Pohiva Tu'i'onetoa, Kava Fa’oliu, Sione Maile, Mo'ui Fo'ou 'ia Kalaisi Fellowship and the Minister of Lands. Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Woman boxer Magan Maka will be Tonga’s flag bearer at the XXI Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia next month. TASANOC announced yesterday that the 24-year-old will lead Tonga’s team of 13 athletes in the parade of nations on 15 April. Auckland, New Zealand : Three container loads of building supplies from Fletcher Building South Pacific are set to arrive in Tonga to assist in rebuilding cyclone-damaged homes of people most in need. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Kuou lau hifo he ongoongo kuo ke tuku mai “man loses land after being time-barred by the Judge at Land-Court decision” and it raises a very interesting issue of an “illegal-activity vs time”. Are we saying that an illegal activity of an illegal land grab will be legal after ten years if no action was taken by the owner to reclaim his land? Are we witnessing the most dangerous precedent case in our land laws since its inception in circa 1862. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The reasoning behind the Tongan Parliament's urgent push to work seven hours overtime on the 8th and 12th March in order to pass five bills that don’t address Tonga’s immediate Cyclone Recovery needs, remains a mystery to the public and some Members of Parliament. Three of the five bills grant the Reserve Bank more control over moneylenders while the two other bills regard foreign exchange levies and Pacific Games taxation incentives. -
