Not sure how tax payers
Not sure how tax payers benefit by this, I hope they cancel this terrible idea. They can go if they want but better to cover their own expenses with their own personal funds. Even $1 from tax payers is $1 too much, since the benefits all go toward the person and not to Tonga. It probably wasn't thought through carefully, so hopefully they can see the error in this and cancel it, or if too late then reimburse the treasury for their trip.
Good luck MMT.
This is why Tonga should have
This is why Tonga should have a Ministry of Sport and/or Portfolio/Minister for Sport to avoid this political saga and waste of money. Instead, they could use this money to welcome the team in Tonga (if they won) or help them with their wages (very important!). If we want Tonga to be in the top of the world, we need to invest and develop our facilities to meet the international standards. One way to do this is to find "The Enabling Minister" who can develop sports in Tonga both in monetary and capacity-building. Go MMT!
