Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Two men and one woman were jailed for possession of 20.92 grams and 13.52 grams of methamphetamine seized in a police raid outside a restaurant in Houma. In sentencing the trio at the Supreme Court in Nuku'alofa, Lord Chief Justice Bishop said Methamphetamine is a serious scourge in Tonga. “Considering the current increase of illicit drugs in the community, deterrence and with it punishment, is of greater priority than rehabilitation.” -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Manase Funaki (37) is serving three years imprisonment for reckless driving that caused the deaths of his two children aged nine and 12 years. His vehicle rolled off Hihifo Road and hit a fence, in January this year. The judge said the driver demonstrated a flagrant disregard for the law and the safety of his passengers or other road users. -

Koror, Palau : Tonga's archers shone at the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Koror, Palau, winning 10 medals, including two golds for Arne Jensen. The archers, who returned home Monday at the end of their competition, are leading Team Tonga's medal standings. By Tuesday, Team Tonga had won 15 medals across several sports. Tonga Women's 3x3 basketball will meet PNG in the semi-finals, before the games conclude with a closing ceremony today, Wednesday, 9 July. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : An official investigation found that a tripped circuit breaker was a primary issue in the Lulutai Airline’s Saab 340B accident on 8 December last year. The report concludes that a more thorough understanding of the hydraulic system and a complete review of the abnormal checklist would have provided the crew with a better understanding of the auxiliary hydraulic system's limitations, including the risk of losing wheel braking action. The aircraft's right landing gear collapsed on the taxiway to the terminal, and the plane ran into a concrete bund, while carrying a full load of 35 passengers and three crew.Premium content
