Nuku'alofa, Tonga : FlyNiu Airlines will close down this week following a Supreme Court ruling this morning. The FlyNiu CEO 'Atu Finau this afternoon in a Press Conference said that they had accepted the court decision with much regret. He said that the biggest loser is the travelling public who will no longer have the right to choose which airline they want to fly with.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga :Chief Justice Webster in rescinding an injunction that had allowed FlyNiu to continue flying in Tonga, said today it was important that his ruling was understood to be about a temporary measure, and that a final decision will come only after the court has heard all the facts and all the submissions for the parties.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Shoreline Group of Companies has parted company with its main financier the ANZ Bank. At the end of last month ANZ ceased to do the billing for Shoreline Power, it closed down its branch at the Shoreline Headquarters and removed its ATM machine from outside the building. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : People's Representatives to the Tongan Parliament today called for government to hold a referendum, asking the Tongan people if they want the right to elect all of the 30 members of the Tongan parliament, so the King can appoint his Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers from among the elected members. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Immigration Division has confiscated the passports of some Tongans who are allowed dual citizenship by second countries. An exception is for people born overseas to Tongan fathers and they may hold dual citizenship because this category is currently not covered under the current legislation.
