    : Tonga’s famous flagbearer Pita Taufatofua (32) was the last of Tonga’s athletes to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympic early this morning (Tonga time) in the Round of 16 Taekwondo Men +80kg. He commented on Instagram: "Felt soo privileged to get out on those mats and represent Tonga!"

    : HM King Tupou VI in Privy Council has upheld a Land Court’s judgment made last year declaring Tupou Tongaliuaki Filo’aulo Aleamotu’a (25) as the lawful successor of the hereditary title Fielakepa, after dismissing an appeal made by his uncle Rt Hon Lord Fielakepa to the Privy Council of Tonga on January 15 this year.

    : A group of children from 12 primary schools in Tongatapu have been wearing special cameras around their necks, taking photos every 10 seconds for three days, as part of research project examining their lives. The research program, Kids’ Cam Tonga, is being conducted by the University of Otago of New Zealand on selected Class Six students, to learn more about the children’s environment and how they interact with it. The findings are expected to help improve children's wellbeing.

    : Teenage swimmer Tupou Neiufi (15) from Auckland has been summoned to join the New Zealand Paralympic team in next month’s Paralympic games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a reserve Tupou Neiufi was a late call up to take the place of Kiwi swimmer Bryall McPherson, who withdrew last week due to injury.

    : Tongan-Australian teenager and Muslim convert Alo-Bridget Namoa (19) was denied bail by a Sydney court over terrorism charges on Monday August 5. Australian news media reported bizarre behaviour exhibited by Alo-Bridget in court, reporting that she was laughing and pulling faces during proceedings. She is formally charged with possessing an item connected to a terrorist act and recklessly collecting documents connected to a terrorist act.

    : A one-year old baby boy who fell from the back of an open van during a collision, died from his injuries on Sunday morning 14 August at Vaiola Hospital. The baby's parents and the driver of the other vehicle, a BMW, remain in a critical condition in hospital.
