    : Tonga has been excluded from the 2016 World Rugby U20 Trophy tournament. Fiji and Samoa are both currently competing in the competition which commenced last week in Zimbabwe. The annual U20 Trophy tournament hosts second tier nations who did not qualify for the premium U20 World Rugby Championship.

    : Welsh rugby club, the Cardiff Blues, honoured their most capped player Taufa'ao Filise at a special testimonial dinner last week. The dinner celebrated a decade of service to the club by Taufa’ao who comes from Malapo in Tonga.

    : Six Pacific Islands of the 15 overall countries submitted their ratification of the Paris Agreement during a special signing ceremony on 22 April in New York. Fiji, Nauru, Palau, Republic of the Marshall Islands, Samoa and Tuvalu submitted their ratifications.

    : The Pacific Games Council is eager to see a Master Plan for the 2019 Pacific Games in Tonga turn into reality, and to make this happen the Tongan Government should swiftly secure contracts for the design and the construction of sporting facilities and venues required, the President of the Pacific Games Council, Vidhya Lakhan said at a Press Conference in Nuku'alofa on Friday, 22 April.

    : A visiting Tongan couple from New Zealand who wanted to adopt a young girl had their application rejected by the Supreme Court on Friday, April 22. The couple intended to take the 5 year-old to be raised in their home in Christchurch. However, the court concluded that the child was better off living in Tonga.

    Paunangisu, Vanuatu
    : Locals from the village of Paunangisu in Vanuatu have proclaimed their Public Toilet as being "the best in the South Pacific" and are charging visitors 200 Vatu ($2 pa'anga) to use it. Locals have a special rate of 50 Vatu, and its free for children. The business venture is so far proving successful and the villagers have even set up a website to promote the toilet.

    : One of Tonga’s greatest musicians, Bill Sevesi (born Wilfred Jeffs), passed away yesterday April 23. He was aged 92. Bill Sevesi was an early pioneer of modern Pacific Island Music and is credited with popularising and introducing the Hawaiian guitar key to Tonga and other Pacific Islands. Bill also introduced Tongan music to the airwaves for the first time. He was inducted in the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame in 2015.

    : Obituary. A Tongan life peer, Taniela Hoko'ila Tufui (Dan), formerly Lord Tufui of Talaheu, died on April 19 at the age of 83, in Ballarat, Australia. A barrister, he was the first Tongan to head the Law Department, was a long serving Chief Secretary to the Government of Tonga and Secretary to Cabinet, and a Privy Councillor.
