Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Amid a continuing fuel crisis in Tonga's northern islands of Vava'u, where petrol shortages have continued for weeks, the government issued a statement today telling consumers that the supply disruption for petrol in Vava'u "is directly due to delays experienced by Pacific Energy in its replacement of the normal Local Costal Tanker with a bigger vessel."

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Ha'apai solar farm project - an on-grid project which will become the first utility scale solar energy generation facility in Ha’apai - was visited yesterday by Australian Minister, Senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells and her delegation who were welcomed by Tonga Power Ltd. staff and the Governor of Ha'apai, Mo’ale Finau. Australia has contributed AUD$5.7 million towards Tonga's Outer Islands Renewable Energy Project in co-financing with the Asian Development Bank and the European Union. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The New Zealand Government is investing to improve aviation safety in eight Pacific Countries, including Tonga. Land users around airports are urged to attend consultations to be carried out before a national project commences in October 2016 focusing on Fua'amotu Airport (Tongatapu), Lupepau'u Airport (Vava'u), Salote Mafile’o Pilolevu Airport (Ha'apai) and Kuini Mata'aho Airport (Niuatoputapu). Satellite technology will be used to develop new flight approaches, which will improve the ability of aircraft to land safely. -
