Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Following a Tonga Privy Council lunchtime meeting the Prince Regent was sworn in as king and he is now Tupou V, according to Australian media. Information released by the Prime MInister's Office to Australian media confirmed that the funeral date would be Tuesday next week after the king lies in state for five days at the Palace. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The date of Tonga's Royal Funeral has yet to be made official, but observers awaiting an official announcement today are forecasting a Saturday or Sunday burial for the late King Taufa'ahau Tupou IV. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : No costs were awarded to the Government of Tonga, the Prime Minister and the Speaker of the House after the Tonga Supreme Court heard submissions on costs for the Parliamentary case that challenged the legality of the Opening of the Tongan Legislature by the Princess Regent on June 1. London, UK : Mr. Tuaileva's letter comes to no surprise at the situation of Tonga's electricity today. The electricity rates have increased and the Government has got its hands twisted in a very embarrassing conflict of interest case with the Shoreline issue. The Government is apparently what they call a "State within a State", whereby Tonga's national assets are run and owned by the King's siblings. If this were a private company owned by a commoner as we have seen with the Domestic Airline license battle then it would have been a totally different story. -William Mariner Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The allegation that China forces abortion on families so they will have one child only exposes the author's ignorance of real conditions in China. China has a population of 1.3 billion, over 1/5 of the world's population, which constitutes serious challenges to the well-being of Chinese people and sustained development between population on one hand, and the economy, society, resources and environment on the other. It is a natural choice for Chinese people to adopt the family planning policy. The combination of state guidance with voluntary participation together with both incentive and restrictive measures is an important principle China has always followed since the implementation of the family planning policy. - Zhang Edward -
