Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pōhiva’s empty rhetorics on educational reform is a cover-up for his nepotism schemes. First, he hired his own son as Personal Assistant. Then he created the false alarm with the examination computer system in the Education Department to facilitate hiring his other son and partner’s computer company.

This is an opportune time for us to build education in Tonga based on what we have learned from the great teachers and leaders of the Ministry of Education and the different schools in the past. We must improve education, not destroy it. - Dr Sitiveni Halapua.

There is no better time than the present for the Prime Minister to consider appointing a female to a Ministerial portfolio, following the dismissal of ‘Etuate Lavulavu from his Ministerial portfolio. ...Only four women have ever been elected by the Tongan people into parliament in the 63 years since 1951 when Queen Sālote gave women the right to stand as candidates. -‘Ofa Guttenbeil Likiliki, WCCC Director.

All the preliminary works for the Teufaiva Stadium Upgrade Project have been ready for months, but the Prime Minister has not done his part in funding the necessary funding. This is what's delaying the start of the project. ...This is a National Project, not to be treated as a personal and political football. - Takitoa Taumoepeau

We are a people destined for failure because of the corruption we have allowed in our government. Crime is on a steep rise but that is to be expected...when our leaders set such a poor example. We have lost all dignity as a people. – ‘Aisea ‘Amanaki.

This is perhaps the most embarrassing and disappointing news about a Tongan government in the most recent times. This PM was well known for preaching against the previous Kings and their system of government, for not allowing justice and the voice of the people to be heard by the Government. - Rev Dr Ma'afu'otu'itonga Palu

Prime Minister 'Akilisi Pohiva has brought Tonga to an all-time moral low! The "new standard" for government officials is that it is okay to be corrupt as long as you admit you are corrupt when you get caught. We must remove the Prime Minister Now! – Sione Masa.

Minister Lavulavu has done everything possible to avoid his upcoming trial. In the meantime the Prime Minister sits by and does nothing, allowing his government (and ours) to be dragged through the mud and embarrassment of yet another 'Etuate Lavulavu scandal. - Peni Katoa.

With the current exchange rate…of banks on NZD, this levy would reduce their margin on foreign exchange transactions by 60%. …This seems like a huge tax so one would expect that the banks would simply reduce the TOP paid out or increase the TOP to be paid by 1c for every unit of foreign currency received or paid out. - Peter Goldstern

One cannot imagine the ignorance of a government that is bankrupt bidding to host games that will cost the government $80,000,000 and produce zero benefit to the people of Tonga. It is déjà vu of the $100,000,000 that China lent us to rebuild Nuku’alofa. The money was never accounted for and spent mostly on the rich and wealthy leaders who controlled the money. - Peni Katoa.

For 20 years we have heard from 'Akilisi Pohiva how dishonest and corrupt previous governments have been. Now, the PM's government in my opinion has been the worst government in 30 years. It is unwilling to hold its own parliament and cabinet to the same rule of law that the rest of us are held to. – ‘Aisea ‘Amanaki.

Now that Government has found a way to levy a 1% taxation on remittances...it adds to the high currency transaction fees that the banks and fund transfer operators are already charging ordinary folks. Instead of finding ways to improve the economy, Government is once again robbing people of the only source of income from the hard labor of their loved ones living and working overseas. – Sione Ake-mei-hakau Mokofisi.

Mr Prime Minister...You forget that the Constitution demands absolute integrity from our law makers. ...when you passively and aggressively requested the House to release your Minister from the impeachment process, you violated justice; you trashed the Constitution and travestied justice. – Tamanomuka.

If the Cabinet Minister Lavulavu was an ordinary Tongan public servant, he would have been arrested by the Police and charged with corruption and other criminal offences. But because he is a minister of the Crown, the Prime Minister of Tonga, ‘Akilisi Pohiva, together with his cabinet and his followers, voted to set him free. – Senolita Swan.

By allowing a government body to decide what a society is able to view online borders on a society being closely monitored and eventually censored. ...Regulating internet content using filtering technologies and administered by a single government body not only provides a false sense of security but the potential to evolve into full censorship is a concern that should not be ignored. ...The focus should be on education and empowerment to ensure parents and children are safe online rather than a government legislated filter. - Anthony Tuipeatau
