    : An unvaccinated 88-year-old woman in Tonga has died from COVID-19, Ministry of Health CEO Dr Siale ‘Akau’ola said today, March 18. There are currently 1819 active cases. Around 134 of the Ministry of Health staff and close contacts have tested positive to COVID-19 so far, including 36 nurses, 13 doctors, 5 dental, 21 support service, 6 laboratory, and 7 administration staff.

    : Tonnes of plastic water bottles have been coming into Tonga through aid supplies since the Hunga Tonga- Hunga Ha’apai Volcanic eruption and tsunami devastated coastlines in January. Volunteers have been collecting bottles and plastic waste from over 1,500 households in Tongatapu, which can be compacted in two balers that were donated by the Australian Government, supporting the activities of a local 'No Pelesitiki' campaign.

The current COVID-19 restrictions in Tonga continue for another week. There has been a second death of a COVID positive case with a pre-existing medical condition.
