Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Tongan Parliament resumed its 2016 session yesterday morning October 3, amid disarray. Apparent procedural inefficiencies wasted much of the day. Firstly, a letter protesting against a Bill for a Water Resources Act was read even before the Bill was read in the House. Then legislators spent over an hour listening to motions from one member, even though the Legisture had already voted on and decided for the motions to be lowered into the Whole House Committee. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Tonga's Police are remaining tight-lipped today, over how an accused murder suspect Dean Jay Fletcher managed to escape their custody yesterday and flee on his yacht 'Sea Oak'. He has not been recaptured and was last seen heading out of Tongan waters. It is alleged he beat his wife to death while visiting Vava'u. Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A Chinese company Zhuhai Singyes that is investing more than $10 million pa’anga to build a 2 Mega Watts solar farm in Tonga will sell its energy to Tonga Power Ltd. at a negotiated price, the Chinese Ambassador to Tonga, HE Mr Huang Huaguang said at a reception at the Kahana Resort on Wednesday 28 September. London, United Kingdom : Kasete Naufahu Skeen’s dream of becoming the first Tongan alpine skier in the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang is now his goal, after he recently quit his full time job to focus solely on skiing. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : After a five hour stand-off a Tonga Police Search and Rescue boat was forced to pull out of a pursuit of the yacht 'Sea Oak' at 4:30pm today, after fugitive murder suspect Dean Jay Fletcher had fired several flares at the small police boat and threatened to set fire to it in northwest Vava'u waters, following his escape from custody in Neiafu earlier.
