    : Tonga marked World Autism Awareness Day today, 2 April with a morning tea event organized by Tapuaki Mei Langi Autism Foundation, held at Vuna Restaurant at Kolomotu’a. It is estimated that between 500 to 1,000 people in Tonga have some sort of autistic spectrum disorder. By Eleanor Gee

    : The “Tonga Police (Amendment) Bill 2019” – one of six urgent bills introduced by Cabinet last month – looks to amend Tonga’s constitution regarding the appointment process of a Police Commissioner. The bill attempts to remove the authority of the King to appoint a Police Commissioner, handing over that right to Cabinet.

    : King Tupou VI, in a message for the closing of the Tonga Legislative Assembly's 2018-19 session today, said there was a lot of work to be done to develop our country. The king's short message, delivered by Lord Vaea, urged all Tongans to be prepared for the effects of climate change, and stressed that the work of Parliament and Government must be carried out in accordance with the Constitution and with dignity. The Prime Minister was absent from the closure.
