    : The National Reserve Bank of Tonga wishes to warn the public that money transfer business is restricted to Authorised Persons with a valid license issued by the Reserve Bank, as required by section 13(1) of the Foreign Exchange Control Act 2018 (FEC Act). Any person conducting foreign exchange services or money transfer business without a valid license commits an offence and is liable upon conviction to penalties under section 13(3) of the FEC Act.

    : An international group of scientists have arrived at the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’apai volcano this week, to conduct a month-long research to better understand the cause of the powerful 2022 eruption. NZ scientist Cornel de Ronde is leading the voyage onboard the research vessel R/V Tangaroa, from 15 May to 12 June. It will be the first voyage to HTHH to comprehensively map the seafloor, while also measuring the gravity and magnetic signatures of the remaining edifice.

    : Tonga Police have arrested 13 people from drug raids at multiple locations in Tongatapu, from 19 to 20 May. The Police also seized forty-two (42) cannabis packs, cannabis leaves, cannabis seeds and drug utensils in these raids.

    : ‘Etuate Lavulavu was fined $15,000 to be paid within four weeks, after he was found guilty of contempt of court, for the comments he made when he went on a program live-streamed on Facebook and YouTube and alleged bias against a trial judge. In sentencing him on 8 May, Acting Lord Chief Justice Tupou ordered that if the defendant failed to pay the fine within the appointed time, he shall be imprisoned for two weeks.

    : Official Public Notice: The National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) wishes to inform the public that LWS Trading and RK3 Pacific Tonga Ltd., operating from Ma’ufanga, have to date, engaged in unauthorized foreign exchange services, in contravention of the Foreign Exchange Control Act 2018 (FEC Act). Providing money transfer services is classified as foreign exchange services, which are legally restricted to Authorized Persons holding a valid license issued by the Reserve Bank, as specified in section 13(1) of the FEC Act 2018.

This is the last big regatta before kiteboarding makes its Olympic debut at Paris 2024. JJ came 8th in the Oceania Olympic qualifiers last December, earning him a spot at the summer Olympics.
