
Mr Roman Vaihu has been appointed as Chef de Mission for Tonga’s delegation to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games, 23 July - 2 August 2026.
The Tonga Sports Association & National Olympic Committee (TASANOC), which also serves as the Tonga Commonwealth Games Association, said Mr. Vaihu will lead the Tongan team to the world stage, and manage all aspects of its participation, from travel and logistics, to athlete welfare and performance support.
TASANOC Secretary General and CEO Netina Latu Vea said Mr. Vaihu’s dual expertise in governance and sport positions him to guide Tonga’s athletes as they prepare to compete with discipline, talent and pride at the 2026 Glasgow Commonwealth Games.
Mr. Vaihu led the newly formed Tonga National Men’s Netball team to Fiji as its captain for a debut invitational tournament. He also serves on TASANOC’s Executive Board
Mr. Vaihu is the Chief Executive Officer of Tonga’s Office of the Ombudsman.
