HM King Tupou VI was appointed as the 32nd Chancellor of the University of the South Pacific, for a one year term from 1 July 2025 - 30 June 2026.

As Chancellor, King Tupou VI will promote the university to a broader community and act as an ambassador for the university in the region and internationally.

During a courtesy visit by the King to the President of the Republic of Fiji, HE Ratu Naigama Lalabalavu congratulated the King on his re-appointment.

King Tupou VI was proud of the progress of USP graduates across the region. He said that over 70 percent of the membership of leadership and decision-making structures in government and society in the Pacific are USP alumnae. He also noted the growing number of Tongan students pursuing higher education at USP, noting this as a positive reflection of Tonga’s commitment to education and human capital development

King Tupou VI had previously served as the 20th Chancellor of the University, after his appointment on July 2013.
