Darwin,Australia : Tonga's young track and field athletes continued their strong showing at the 2026 Oceania Athletics Championships in Darwin, with several medal-winning performances across sprint, hurdles and field events, day four. Eighteen-year-old athlete 'Ofa Tuifua broke the Tongan Open Record in the women’s 400m hurdles, clocking 1 minute 6.39 seconds to claim silver in the under-20 final.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Tongan government has proposed a national budget estimate of $929.5 million paʻanga for 2026/27, with a projected $38.1 million deficit, presented to Parliament yesterday, 18 May 2026, by Prime Minister Lord Fakafanua. He said a decline in Tonga's economic growth is driven largely by conflicts in the Middle East resulting in energy-related challenges and associated economic pressures.
