Wednesday, 18 September 2024, is a significant day in Oceania football when, for the first time in history, two teams will qualify for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2025, to be played in Morocco. The qualifiers will be the winners of the OFC U-16 Women’s Championship semi-finals - first Samoa vs New Caledonia, second New Zealand vs Tonga. Soane Mailangi, Tonga head coach, said, “Our team is feeling excited and focused as we prepare for the semifinal against the mighty New Zealand. We know it’s going to be a tough match, but the players are determined and ready to give their best. There’s a sense of pride and belief among the team, knowing we’ve worked hard to reach this stage.”

Team Tonga joined the grand opening ceremony of the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics on Friday, 26 July, and were onboard one of the 85 boats carrying 6,800 athletes 6km along the River Seine towards the Eiffel Tower. Flagbearers were swimmer, Alan Uhi, and boxer, Fe'ofa'aki 'Epenisa. Alan and Fe'ofa'aki completed their competitions during the weekend, while Noelani Day and Maleselo Fukofuka will have their heats on 3 August.

Tonga’s first female Olympic boxer Fe’ofa’aki ‘Epenisa (28) aka Aki, has arrived in France to represent Tonga at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. She will compete in the women’s 60kg category, on 27 July, 04:18 pm, Paris time (Sunday 28 July, 3:18am, Tonga time). Aki's journey in boxing started in her last year of college in Texas, USA, but boxing is in her Vava'u blood.
