Junior Mataliki loses opening match

Tonga’s Junior Mataliki lost their opening match against Cook Islands (0-1) in the OFC U-19 Women's Championship in Tahiti today, 22 September 2025.

The first match of the championship was between Tonga and the Cook Islands, where the Kukis came out as the victors with the score of 1-0.

The Cook Islands led on the first half after their No.16 –Metuamaru Arere scored a free kick after Tonga was penalized for a physical foul/tripping.

The Kukis maintained their defence and offence play until the end of the match, securing their opening win in the championship.

Daniella Casey Poila from the Cook Islands received the first Player of the Match award of the Championship.

The Junior Mataliki now looks forward to playing against Fiji on Sunday, 28 October, 3:00pm (Tonga time).
