    : A stepfather was found guilty by a Supreme Court judge, on numerous counts that included serious indecent assault of his two young step-daughters and raping one of them, while the mother was found guilty of helping him commit several of these serious sexual offences, which took place last year in Tongatapu. Name suppression was ordered by the judge to protect the identity of the victims.

    : At the United Nations General Assembly in New York, global heads of state are meeting on September 26-27 to highlight two major health threats. On the first day, they will discuss strategies to end tuberculosis (TB), an ancient bacterium that remains the world’s deadliest infectious disease. On the second day, world leaders will discuss plans to beat leading NCDs such as cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular and lung disease.     : Tonga's Prime Minister told parliament yesterday, Thursday September 20, that he wanted to send all members to prison, including himself, because they did not take action on an Auditor General's annual report from 2012-13 that had been previously presented to parliament.
