    : Manitasi Leger says he was the first Tongan representative to attend the Commonwealth Youth Parliament when it was held in Brisbane, Australia in 2005, and Tonga had another representative, Kerry Lepa, attend in 2012, before Elizabeth Kite was nominated in 2016.

    : The Tonga Under 20s team have scored a big win over the Cook Islands in their first game of the U20 Oceania Rugby Championship in Suva, Fiji. Tonga U20s dominated the game, scoring eight tries to beat the Cook Islands U20s 50 – 12. The Cook Islanders managed two tries.

    : The first ever shipment of Tongan squash to China left Tonga this week, after Tongatapu exporter Nishi Trading successfully passed a strict quarantine inspection on Saturday, 26 November 2016. This important achievement took 18 months of negotiation and inspections leading to an initial protocol between the Governments of China and Tonga in May. This initiative was supported by PHAMA - the Pacific Horticultural & Agricultural Market Access Program.

    : Two girls excelled in Tonga High School's 2016 academic year, with the Dux awarded to Sela Tupou Patisepa Maka (18) and Proxime Accessit to Kalolaine Launga Fa'anunu (17) at the prize giving ceremony held today, December 2, at Queen Salote Memorial Hall, Nuku'alofa.     : Growth in cargo volumes and the number of ships calling at the Port of Nuku’alofa, as well as operating efficiencies has resulted in a record dividend of $$1,617,862 for the financial year 2015/16 for the Ports Authority of Tonga. The dividend was declared by the Board of Directors on 1 December 2016, during their Annual General Meeting in Nuku'alofa, when the Chairman Mr Stephen Edwards, presented a dividend cheque to the Minister for Public Enterprises, Poasi Mataele Tei, for the shareholder, the Government of Tonga.

    : By not shaving their moustaches for a month, a group of local gentlemen dedicated themselves to raising donations for the Child Cancer Foundation Tonga (CCFT). Ten men started to grow beards on November 1 but only four lasted without shaving until the end of the month.

    : Tonga could expect two to three cyclones this season, and Tonga Met says there's a chance that at least one of them could be a Severe Tropical Cyclone (Category 3 and above). The current cyclone season began on 1 November and runs through to the end of April 2017.

    : An 18 month long project to support the development of the vanilla industry in Vava'u this year has also helped Tonga's MAFF and Australian development partners to better understand the challenges and opportunities faced by vanilla growers and the vanilla industry. Over 100 vanilla growers were directly assisted and 328 plantations monitored under the project, which has identified a need for new plantings, particularly on small family plantations.

    : Tonga's Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon. Poasi Tei received a dividend cheque of $4,345,262 pa'anga, presented by the Chairman of the Common Utilities Board of Directors, Carl Sanft on November 29. The Combined Utility Dividend for the year 2016 goes to the Government of Tonga, being the sole shareholder of power, water and waste utilities and the subsidiary companies Tonga Gas Ltd. and Home Gas Ltd.

    : The skipper of a whale watching boat, the 'Ha’apai Explorer" was injured when its engine exploded at sea on Saturday, November 26. The boat with two foreign passengers on board, was on its way back to Pangai from Limu Island in the Ha’apai Group when the accident happened.
