Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The United States does not ask any nation to choose between the United States and China, the United States Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy R. Sherman, said in Tonga this afternoon, while expressing disappointment that China had decided to cancel and suspend various relations with the US yesterday, including climate change talks. “For Tonga climate change is existential, and we understand that, and it's just terribly disappointing that the world's largest emitter right now, and a country who must be engaged, for us to reach 1.5 degrees Celsius, has now withdrawn from that discussion, that should be a big concern to all of us.” By Mary Lyn Fonua.Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Kaluseti Holani (22) was sentenced to four-years eight-months imprisonment for several offences, including causing serious bodily harm, when he discharged a firearm injuring two young men, at Afa in January this year. The Lord Chief Justice said the accused was fortunate not to have been charged with attempted murder. Even though a complaint had been filed to Mu'a police, the same rifle was used in this second incident. There were no attempts by the police to resolve the issues.Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Mr. ‘Alo-ki- hakau Maileseni was appointed to the position of Chief Executive Officer of the Ports Authority Tonga on 1 August 2022, for a term of four years. The Chairman of the Transport Sector Board of Directors, Dr. Sione Ngongo Kioa and Board of Directors approved the appointment, which was endorsed by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon. A stolen iPad was tracked by GPS to a home in Tokomololo and then Police recovered all the other stolen electronic equipment from a shop. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Sitaleki Tu’itavake (48) was sentenced to four and a half-years imprisonment for possession of 2.87 grams of methamphetamine and 3,153.7 grams of cannabis in two separate incidents. The judge declined to suspend any part of the sentence. "All his recent history demonstrates a flagrant disregard for the law and the opportunities afforded to him for rehabilitation. With his escalating drug offending, he is also becoming a risk to himself and the community,” he said.Premium content -
