Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Tonga's political reform process is currently in a limbo until commissioners are appointed and parliament has agreed on a few issues, the Prime Minister Dr Feleti Sevele confirmed while answering questions at a Press Conference in Nuku'alofa on Thursday, September 11.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The process of privatising government enterprises in Tonga made two steps forward and one step backward in July. The government sold its remaining 75 per cent shareholding in the Leiola Group Ltd., Tonga's sole Duty Free enterprise, to the Pacific Retail Ltd. for $6.06 million pa'anga; and its 40 per cent shares in the Westpac Bank of Tonga to Westpac for $25 million pa'anga. Then government bought back the national power generation unit from Shoreline Power for $US17.7 million and handed it over to its own company Tonga Power Ltd. Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Re: Elected members upset that new tax rate hits MP's pockets. "The Prime Minister used the Cabinet Ministers' parliamentary salaries as an example. He said that a minister's Basic Salary was $32,000. The first $7,400 was tax-free, therefore the remaining $24,600 was taxed 10 per cent. He said that even if the allowances of $5,400 were added on it was only going to be the remaining figures above $30,000 that would be taxed 20 per cent." Accident shatters dreams of two talented sportsmen I am referring to the men Paumolevuka Tu'i (18) of Talafo'ou and Mafua Kiokata (22) of Nukunuku training for the Aussie Rules trip to australia and would like to add I do not know them or their families.
