Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Tofua volcano activity continues with an increase in the number of daily events, from 6 events to 12 events, in the latest report by Tonga Geological Services issued at 6:30 am this morning, 9 May. Fluctuations in the ground thermal levels are currently low and approaching normal thermal levels in the last 24 hours. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A dozen naval personnel from His Majesty’s Armed Forces learned how to fix outboard motors, in a workshop conducted by a Japanese team of trainers, who arrived in Tonga yesterday, 7 May 2024. Team leader, Cmdr. Murakoshi Masato of Japan’s Armed Forces, said they were passing on “lifesaving” information.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A widowed mother of seven, Mele Havea (35) received 18 months imprisonment, fully suspended, after pleading guilty to charges of impersonating a customs officer in Vava’u. Paris, France : Press freedom around the world is being threatened by political authorities – the very people who should be its guarantors. In marking Press Freedom Day, on 3 May, Reporters Without Borders says this is clear from the latest World Press Freedom Index, which shows journalism is under political pressure. Their finding was based on five indicators that were used to compile this year's ranking, and it showed that the political indicator has fallen most, registering a global average fall of 7.6. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Tonga Government will keep running the Lulutai Airlines, until someone can buy them out and take over the operation of the domestic airline, the Prime Minister said on Friday. “If Lulutai withdraws, would there be any airline services for the outer islands? Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The body of a man who was discovered on the roadside in the Tokomololo area, on Sunday, 5 May, has been identified as 50 year old Kepueli 'Ahome'e from Ha'alalo.
