Interim Speaker receives second PM nomination

A second written nomination for the position of Prime Minister Designate was received today, 10 December, by the office of the Interim Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Tonga.

The Office of the Interim Speaker stated that in accordance with the practices of the Legislative Assembly "the details of the nomination will only be revealed by the Interim Speaker, Lord Tangi 'o Vaonukonuka in the presence of the Elected Representatives at the meeting convened for the election of the Prime Minister Designate."

However, further written nominations for Prime Minister Designate may continue to be lodged until this Friday, 12 December at 4.30 pm.

The elected nobles and people's representatives are expected to meet next week, Monday 15 December, to choose Tonga's new Prime Minister.
