Supporters of the outgoing Prime Minister Hon. Dr. 'Aisake Eke failed to convince their fellow People's Representatives to keep the premiership within their table on Monday. The election of the new Prime Minister from the Noble's table proved a marked shift in alliances, with Dr Eke's own deputy, Dr. Taniela Fusimalohi, publicly declaring support for the rival candidate, Lord Fakafanua, along with close allies of Eke's predecessor PM, Hon. Hu'akavameiliku (PR Tongatapu 3).

The top seats in Tonga's Legislative Assembly and government, were secured by the King's Nobles today. The Prime Minister Designate, as well as the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, are all landed nobility, chosen during today's special meeting of the elected members of the House.

Lord Nuku, has been eliminated from the Noble's candidates for Tonga’s General Election, "due to pending legal matters,” the Electoral Supervisor Pita Vuki​​​​​​​ said today. The final tally of registered Tongan voters closed at 64,707 but only Tongans present in the country can vote for the People’s Representatives in tomorrow’s General Election. Vuki is hoping that turnout will improve on the 2021 election when only 61% of voters turned out.

The Electoral Commission in Tonga shared the allocated locations for polling booths today, ahead of the general election on Thursday, 20 November. There are also special polling places in each island group for constituents who are regisered on other islands.
