Lord Nuku, has been eliminated from the Noble's candidates for Tonga’s General Election, "due to pending legal matters,” the Electoral Supervisor Pita Vuki​​​​​​​ said today. The final tally of registered Tongan voters closed at 64,707 but only Tongans present in the country can vote for the People’s Representatives in tomorrow’s General Election. Vuki is hoping that turnout will improve on the 2021 election when only 61% of voters turned out.

Voter registrations have closed for the 20 November general election, the Tonga Electoral Commission (TEC) announced today, 6 November.

Fourteen nobles are standing for election to the nine noble's seats in the Legislative Assembly of Tonga. They vote among themselves. HSH Prince Kalaniuvalu Fotofili, the incumbent noble for the Niuas, was the sole candidate for the Niuas, and has therefore been declared elected by the Electoral Commission Office.

The opening day of candidate registration for the general election saw a mix of new candidates and incumbent members in Tongatapu, running for the ten Tongatapu seats of the People's representatives in Tonga's Legislative Assembly.

The registration of voters for the November General Election will close on Thursday, 18 September. Today, a significant number of young people were registering, the Supervisor of Elections, Pita Vuki told Matangi Tonga. Individuals aged 21 to 35 years make up approximately 25% of the total eligible voters in 2025.

A Tongan academic, Dr Mo'ale 'Otunuku of Longomapu won the Vava'u 14 By-election with 709 votes, securing his seat as a new People's Representative in the Legislative Assembly of Tonga, today, 28 March, 2024.

Four candidates are contesting the seat for the Vava’u 14 People's Representative to the Tonga Legislative Assembly, in a By-Election to be held on Thursday, 28 March, 2024.

Five candidates will be contesting the seat for the Tongatapu 10 People's Representative to the Tonga Legislative Assembly, in a By-Election to be held on Thursday, 13 July.

Johnny Gratten Vaea Taione won the Tongatapu 8 By-Election with 743 votes and secured his seat in the Legislative Assembly of Tonga. He replaces the late Semisi Fakahau.
