    : In a surprising trick of nature, the eye of Severe Tropical Cyclone Tino (Cat. 3) passed over Tonga on Saturday afternoon, 18 January, while barely grazing the capital Nuku'alofa, which was on track for a direct hit. The eye passed between the Ha'apai Group and Tongatapu Group. UPDATED.

    : UPDATED 1:21pm: Severe Tropical Cyclone Tino intensified into a Category 3 storm this morning, as it entered Tongan waters, packing very destructive wind gusts of up to 130-140 km/hr near its centre. On its current track, STC Tino is expected to lie at about 165km West of Pangai, Ha'apai at 7:00pm this evening. Storm to Hurricane force winds will affect Vava'u, Ha'apai, Tongatapu and 'Eua tonight, according the Fua'amotu Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre at 11:00am Saturday 18 January 2020.

    : Disappointing results for Tonga's national exams in 2019, with a very low pass rate, has stung the Ministry of Education and Training to look at ways of improving students performances in the future.     : A Tropical Cyclone Alert remains in force for Tonga today, as Tropical Depression (TD 04F) in the Western Pacific, moving toward Fiji and Tonga, is expected to bring strong gale force winds to the Niuas starting tomorrow morning, with storm force winds over southern Tonga during the weekend. Fua'amotu Tropical Cyclone Warning Centre issued a weather warning at 6:00pm Thursday 16 January 2020.
