Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Two flights arriving in Tonga today repatriated around 56 passengers from Nadi, Fiji. Seven more passengers arrived from Tarawa, Kiribati, with the repatriation of a deceased person. A third flight arrived today from Tahiti for a fuel stop.Premium content

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Tevita Talia’uli Fatongiatau (33) was sentenced at the Supreme Court last week to two-years six-months imprisonment for possession of illicit drugs. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Unclaimed money totalling over $973,085 pa'anga, held in 1582 customer accounts by commercial banks in Tonga, will be transferred to the government and will become government property, if the accounts remain unclaimed. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Mikaele Hoponoa Pahulu (40) was sentenced to three-years imprisonment for beating up a 71-year-old patient at the Psychiatric Ward in Vaiola Hospital. The victim, who suffered a severe head injury, remains paralysed and is fed via nasogastric tube.Premium content

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Manase Tonga (42) received a suspended prison sentence on August 28 at the Supreme Court for possession of cannabis, and also a rifle and ammunition without a licence, in two separate incidents in 2018-19. The court was told the accused had begun selling drugs because his work fixing water pumps at the bottom of the village wells presented health and safety hazards, and caused impairments that made it difficult for him to maintain his family.Premium content
