    : Tonga’s economy is performing strongly but faces growing headwinds, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) stated in its country report for Tonga published on 3 November. Although tourism-related services are recovering, tourism receipts as a share of GDP are anticipated to remain below pre-pandemic levels until FY2026 due to slow reconstruction of damaged facilities. Worker migration is causing severe labour shortages.

    : Tonga's delegation, led by the Prime Minister Hon. Hu'akavameiliku, arrived in the Cook Islands on 3 November for the 52nd Pacific Islands Forum meeting to be held from 6-10 November. The 2050 Strategy for the Blue Pacific Continent and climate change is high on the agenda. The Forum Secretary General Henry Puna said that the Pacific priorities and messages would be taken to the annual COP negotiations in UAE at the end of November.

    : King Tupou VI and Queen Nanasipau'u exchanged gifts with HE Mr Munenaga Kensaku and Mrs Yoshiko Munenaga during a Royal Audience at the Palace in Nuku'alofa today, 3 November 2023.     : The cruise ship, MS Noordam, docked at Vuna Wharf in Nuku’alofa this morning, with over 1,500 tourists. The vessel arrived at 8:00am after departing Vava’u at 5:00pm yesterday. While in Nuku'alofa, the ship delivered over 500kgs of school library books and other resources that were purchased with donations from passengers on the ship.

    : ‘Akosita Lavulavu’s application to the courts for leave to appeal against a ruling by Acting Justice Langi, was refused in Nuku’alofa. Justice Randerson stated he had no hesitation in concluding that this appeal had no merit. There was nothing to suggest the judge will not deal with the case fairly, objectively and in accordance with her judicial oath, he said.

    : Tonga's Prime Minister said, “We are not trying to impress anyone. This was a sovereign decision made by the Government of Tonga...,” when he was asked why Tonga had opposed the UN General Assembly resolution that called for an “immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce” between Israeli forces and Hamas in Gaza. Tonga was one of only 14 countries, including the US and Israel, to reject the resolution, which urged the cessation of hostilities.

    : The Tonga government is planning to convert seawater into drinking water for the outer islands during the current drought caused by El Niño conditions across the southern region of the Pacific. "The government's main concern is to provide sufficient water resources for the outer islands," he told a media briefing at St George Government building in Nuku'alofa.
