    : David Kent Jr Tau’alupe (39) was jailed for one year for causing grievous bodily harm to ‘Alo’i Kei, when he stabbed him with a sharp object, causing a severe wound to his left upper abdomen, during a drink up altercation at the Laione Club in Vava’u. The judge said the offending with a concealed sharp object, “clearly signals a degree of planning and premeditation on his part coupled with the use of a highly dangerous weapon.”

    : Tongan students at the University of the South Pacific in Vanuatu, this year, say they had returned home after their exams, before the devastating 7.4 magnitude earthquake that struck Port Vila yesterday. The Government of Vanuatu, stated last night that most of the damage was in Port Vila, Efate. There were 14 confirmed deaths, and many injured or missing.

    : A woman who attempted to swallow a packet of methamphetamine when Police led her outside a bar, was sentenced to 11 months imprisonment. Seluvaia Mailelua (42) pleaded guilty to possession of 1.15 grams of methamphetamine, attempted destruction of evidence when she attempted to swallow the packet of meth, possession of 0.58 grams of cannabis and unlawful possession of utensils, namely one smoking pipe.

    : Kalolaine Fainga’a (32) is serving three years four months in prison for serious housebreaking and theft of goods worth $13,830, including Tongan handicrafts and jewellery from a residence in Tofoa. This was in addition to a suspended sentenced, which was activated. “Housebreaking is always a serious matter, it destroys security, it engenders fear and causes financial distress,” said the Lord Chief Justice.
