Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Tonga's midnight curfew has been eased by to start at 1:00am to 5:00am, as weekly flights to Tonga have increased, since the gradual re-opening of Tonga’s international border on 1 August. Two national State of Emergencies have also been renewed.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Kalafitoni Toluta'u (41) and Simoni Taliai (39) who pleaded guilty to a joint count of possessing 1.96 grams of methamphetamine, after they were reported to be selling illicit drugs from a car in Ma'ufanga were jailed. Neiafu, Vava'u : A team of scientists is undertaking coastal marine surveys in Tongan waters to evaluate impacts to coral reefs and fisheries following the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha'apai eruption in January 2022. Special Management Areas (SMAs) and aquaculture areas are of prime concern. With support from the Waitt Institute, the research vessel, “Plan b”, will arrive in Tongatapu today, 23 August, and conducting surveys until 5 September. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : A gale warning remains in force for all of Tonga's land and coastal areas. Strong and gale force winds are expected to continue affecting Tonga for the rest of this week, while cool strong, east to southeasterly winds prevail all over the group, the Fua'amotu Weather Centre advised this afternoon.
