Suva, Fiji : Fiji opened its first COVID-19 vaccination drive-through at Suva's Albert Park Pavillion on 6 July as the country battles with rapidly increasing new cases. The Ministry of Health and Medical Services reported 636 new COVID-19 cases and 6 deaths over a 24-hour period on 7 July. -

Sydney, Australia : New York Times reporting: Three days after the emergence of a rare COVID-19 case in Sydney, around 40 friends gathered for a birthday party. Along with cake and laughter, there was a hidden threat: One of the guests had unknowingly crossed paths with that single COVID case, an airport driver who had caught the Delta variant from an American aircrew. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Questions in parliament this morning once again failed to win any clarity from the Prime Minister on the salaried status of his jailed Minister of Infrastructure and Tourism. No new ministers have been appointed to the portfolios held by 'Akosita Lavulavu, who started five years imprisonment on Friday July 2. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Imposing six year prison sentences on convicted fraudsters 'Etuate and 'Akosita Lavulavu today Hon. Mr Justice J. Cooper said he had taken into account all mitigating factors and had kept his overall sentence as low as he as he could. In his 61 points sentencing remarks, released this afternoon, the judge said he took no account of the corrupting of the trial process by both defendants and their submission of false references. “I ignore the fact that Mr Lavulavu has sought to try and influence the outcome with the lure of money.” He also noted that they were not charged with theft, when they could have been. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Six years prison sentences were imposed on the Lavulavu couple this morning in their sentencing at the Nuku'alofa Supreme Court. The judge noted that both had shown no remorse and made no attempts to repay over $500,000 pa'anga of TVET education funds they had plundered. Probation reports said 'Etuate was known to be “deceitful” and 'Akosita's dishonesty proved her true character. 'Akosita is a Minister in the Tu'i'onetoa government. Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Lemoto Lui (45) was sentenced today to four-years imprisonment for two counts of serious indecent assault committed on a young girl in 2020.
