Minnesota, United States : Halapoulivaati Vaitai of the Philadelphia Eagles and Harvey Langi of the New England Patriots, will vie for a Super Bowl ring when their teams clash in Super Bowl LII on February 4 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The Eagles are expected to name Vaitai as a starting tackle while Langi sits on the Patriot’s injury list since surviving a serious car crash in October last year.

Auckland, New Zealand : Talakai Aholelei (66) – the driver of the bus which crashed in New Zealand in 2016 killing three Tongan nationals – was sentenced to 5½ months’ home detention by a New Zealand court on Wednesday. Talakai was also disqualified from driving for two years and ordered to pay $36,000 in emotional reparations. The bus was carrying 53 people, mostly members of a brass band from Mailefihi Siu'ilikutapu College in Vava’u – who were touring New Zealand to raise funds. Premium content -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Three years after Tonga’s Ministry of Education reformed Tonga’s examination marking system, and replaced its Standardized Marks System with a "National Raw Marks - Outcome Based System" there is still confusion and reaction against the new system in Tonga. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Twenty-six Tongan students have been awarded tertiary scholarships to study in New Zealand and Fiji starting this year, funded by the New Zealand Government through its Aid programme. New Zealand universities have accepted 21 scholars, while Fiji’s University of the South Pacific has accepted six. -

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : An exhausting week-long walkathon around Ha’apai, ‘Eua, Vava’u and Tongatapu was completed last week by Frazer Mataitonga from the ‘Akanesi Mataitonga Trust. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : 'Etuate Lavulavu is to pay Viliami Latu the sum of $69,319.90 after Justice O. G. Paulsen on 8 January 2018 dismissed an application by ‘Etuate Lavulavu for the Supreme Court to change a “Consent Order” that came into effective on 11 August 2017. Isafjordur, Iceland : Pita Taufatofua has stolen the show once again after qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics in South Korea.
