    : A group of soil scientists have embarked on a quest to determine the impact of the volcanic ash fall and tsunami caused by the Hunga-Tonga Hunga-Ha’apai volcanic eruption that occurred near Tonga in January this year. Core soil samples collected from areas on Tongatapu and 'Eua will be undergo DNA and chemical analysis at CSIRO’s Analytical Services Unit laboratory in Australia before being archived for future research.

The public need to see that condign punishment will be visited on police officers who betray the trust reposed in them, said the sentencing judge who also suspended 12 months of the sentence.

    : Siaosi Brown (31) was found guilty of possession of illicit drugs, namely 222.69 grams of cannabis seized during a police search at a residence at Fanga. He will be sentenced on 11 November. In delivering his verdict Mr Justice Cooper was critical of the Crown prosecution's attempts to to call a convicted drug user to attempt to undermine the evidence of two police officers. “That sort of error needs to be properly understood so it is not repeated,” he warned.
