    : The World Health Organization is urging countries to eliminate industrially produced trans-fat (TFA), from the global food supply by 2023, due to its link to heart disease and death. In Tonga, 1.71 % of coronary heart disease deaths is due to trans-fat intake. Trans-fats raise our bad (LDL) cholesterol levels and lower your good (HDL) cholesterol levels. Examples of foods that may contain trans-fat include doughnuts, cookies, crackers, muffins, pies and cakes.

    : Vaipulu Ikamanu was discharged on charges relating to the importation of prohibited goods, a .22 rifle and 6,801 ammunitions alleged to have been smuggled in a box from the United States last year. He said, he was only asked to collect it. The judge said S.117 of the act was inconsistent with the Constitution “and I therefore find that S.117 is void.”

    : Two visitors from New Zealand have started collecting rubbish left scattered on Tongatapu beaches this month. They remove bag loads of dirty diapers and other waste, so the beaches are “all clean and safe for everyone to use and enjoy,” and to protect marine life.

    : Viliami Talivakaola was discharged at the Supreme Court on charges relating to the importation of prohibited goods, namely a shotgun and 900 ammunitions, alleged to have been smuggled to Tonga in a shipment from the United States last year. He found that the indictment against the accused was faulty.

    : Ma’ata Pouono (46) was sentenced today to one-year six-months imprisonment, which was fully suspended, for possession of methamphetamine and bribery of a police officer, at Lapaha in 2018. Police seized the methamphetamine hidden inside a diaper in a rubbish bag at the accused's home as well as $1,366 cash found in her wallet.

    : An application by ‘Anisi Kulufeinga Bloomfield for leave to appeal against his extradition to Fiji under the Extradition Act was refused by Lord Chief Justice Whitten, in a ruling from the Supreme Court on 2 September. The extraordinary circumstances of the case, and contradictory letters from the Prime Minister, required an affidavit from the Prime Minister to be considered in the ruling.
