Nuku‘alofa, Tonga : Under a joint operation by the armed forces of Tonga, New Zealand and France, tons of New Zealand gifted cyclone relief supplies have been ferried overnight to Pangai and also by three flights made by a French CASA aircraft to Lifuka today, in a major effort to supply drinking water, shelter and other goods to the areas that were devasted by Cyclone Ian on January 11. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : In a swift response after Cyclone Ian cut off communications in Ha‘apai on Saturday, Digicel-Tonga Ltd. has put in place temporary solutions to get its mobile phone network restored in Ha'apai. Greenbelt, Md.-USA : NASA's TRMM satellite passed over Tropical Cyclone Ian three days in a row and captured rainfall and thunderstorm cloud height data about the deadly storm as it strengthened and weakened. Powerful thunderstorms in Ian's eye wall were found reaching heights of about 15 km/9.3 miles. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : Food and water supplies worth more than $40,000 pa’anga was handed over to the Prime Minister Lord Tu’ivakano from the Chinese Ambassador to Tonga HE Mr Huang Huaguang to help the relief efforts in Ha'apai on January 15.
