Stoneb Stone comments: Funny thing is that when I see the word 'nationalism' I remember George Speight, a 'nationalist' and the main instigator of the Fiji coup in 2000. And if the Minister is referring to Goodlad and Sirotnik's concept of moral dimension then he's turning a blind eye at how his reforms are being currently carried out in the education ministry as far from being moral.

Laluna Kahuna comments: The whole education system in Tonga needs an overhaul. Starting with the hot shots in Ministry of Education, school Principals, teachers etc. Start by sacking all those teachers who do not turn up for school to teach or for lack of teaching, those who physically, mentally and emotionally abuse the students, eating students lunches, having favourites - just to mention a few of the issues wrong with the education here. Tonga's education is still 30-40 years behind the rest of the world.

In the maritime arena, Tonga is grappling with security of its extensive coastline as well as policing of its 676,401 sq km territory. Its remote location makes it a fertile region for transnational crime, while unauthorized exploitation of its fisheries and marine wealth in its coastal waters as well as in its EEZ has direct impact on its national economy and security.

A year after Tonga’s second democratically elected government came into power at the end of December 2014, Tongan politics is stuck in the doldrums. The repetition by PM Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva that his government has the will to "take action" guided by the high moral principles of "good leadership, rule of law - justice for all and the fair distribution of national wealth," so far, are just hot air. The difference between what has been said and what has happened, speaks for itself. Editor's Comment by Pesi Fonua.
