The public has a right to know about MP ‘Akosita Lavulavu’s state of mind while her husband was misusing his authority. Was she just a silent partner who went along for the ride? – Sione Mokofisi.

Senituli Penitani contrives to cover-up the evils of non-separation of Church and State. He further sugar-coded Tongan Christian history as corruption-free, unlike European Christian churches. There’s enough historical evidence to show that the joint Church religious influence and Government political authority corrupts. – Sione Mokofisi.

When talking about the Separation of Church and State, we need to be reminded of the different historical, political, and social contexts in which this principle was being defined, perceived, and rehashed. – Senituli Penitani.

Sione Talanoa Fifita says: "I admire the PM for acknowleding his sympathy with the flood victims and at least he was honest with his response, despite the fact he is not proactive enough. The global most concern now is climate change and he should have been forecasted that such natural disaster would occur and be proactive to put aside a proportion of the budget for such occurrence." Pulu Anau on Facebook said: The largest number of overstayers within Tonga are likely Chinese, especially judging from news reports. Instead of looking at this as a bad deal, this is where Tonga can be an example to countries like Australia and NZ. Yes, people occasionally overstay, but countries that are friends act like it. So China is now our friend, why do we still need visas to our other two "friends" south of us?

Claims about the weaknesses or failures of the old education system are not based on any research or valid evidence, rather it is based on personal perceptions. The latest change to the internal assessment again is a clear example of the ad hoc changes that are taking place where the claim against the evil of internal assessment is unfounded and not based on any valid evidence. - Dr. Visesio Pongi

I was a little confused after reading your article: Tonga's new foreign exchange levy starts 1 June to pay for Pacific Games. In the article it said that this "tax" was needed to help fund the 2019 Pacific Games? How was Tonga going to finance this event when they went and bid to have Tonga host these games?

Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pōhiva’s empty rhetorics on educational reform is a cover-up for his nepotism schemes. First, he hired his own son as Personal Assistant. Then he created the false alarm with the examination computer system in the Education Department to facilitate hiring his other son and partner’s computer company.

This is an opportune time for us to build education in Tonga based on what we have learned from the great teachers and leaders of the Ministry of Education and the different schools in the past. We must improve education, not destroy it. - Dr Sitiveni Halapua.

Stoneb Stone comments: Funny thing is that when I see the word 'nationalism' I remember George Speight, a 'nationalist' and the main instigator of the Fiji coup in 2000. And if the Minister is referring to Goodlad and Sirotnik's concept of moral dimension then he's turning a blind eye at how his reforms are being currently carried out in the education ministry as far from being moral.

Laluna Kahuna comments: The whole education system in Tonga needs an overhaul. Starting with the hot shots in Ministry of Education, school Principals, teachers etc. Start by sacking all those teachers who do not turn up for school to teach or for lack of teaching, those who physically, mentally and emotionally abuse the students, eating students lunches, having favourites - just to mention a few of the issues wrong with the education here. Tonga's education is still 30-40 years behind the rest of the world.

Facebook, Robert Blake says: No disrespect to Australia for supporting, thanks- But this is undermining Tonga's Democratic system. ...When Australia help release that pressure by paying AUD$12million...the Government no longer see needs to answer to its people, no longer needs to justify their action to the people. ...coz the Gov't is employed by Australia.

While Tonga languishes in debt as a nation owing several hundred million dollars with a dead economy and extremely high unemployment especially with our youth, we volunteer to spend $100,000,000 TOP to host the South Pacific Games....Our leaders have turned us into a beggar nation, so deeply in debt that our grandchildren and great grandchildren’s future has been sold. Faka'ofa – Sione Masa.

I think the PM’s Office should remove its official Press Release of April 15th and apologize to Mrs Viola Ulakai for such a disrespectful and thoroughly un-democratic remark. – Rev Ma’afu Palu.
