    : UNICEF is supporting the Government of Samoa to respond to a measles outbreak in the country. The Government of Samoa officially declared a state of emergency on 15 November 2019, four weeks into the continuing measles outbreak with more than 1000 suspected cases so far. The epidemic has claimed the lives of 14 children under-five years old and one adult. Lesser outbreaks are reported in Tonga and Fiji.

    : A Salt Lake City jury have convicted a female migrant from Tonga, Alavina Florreich (70), of childhood sex abuse against Avrohom Zippel, now a 28-year-old man. Despite there being no evidence of the alleged abuse, the jury were compelled to find Alavina guilty on all counts. She is scheduled to be sentenced early next year and could face life imprisonment, although she plans to appeal.

    : The US president is abandoning America’s future by quitting the Paris climate accord, says Ban Ki-moon former Secretary General of the United Nations and Patrick Verkooijen chief executive of the Global Center on Adaptation. In an article in the New York Times this week, they said it is not too late for Mr Trump to reconsider his decision. Staying in the Paris Agreement is the right thing to do, for America’s sake and for the rest of the world.
