    : Safe drinking water will be easier to access for around 4,000 people in six villages across western and eastern Tongatapu thanks to the New Zealand Government committing NZ$51,000 to Caritas Tonga to restore water supply catchments. Works include renovating and rehabilitating decrepit rainwater tanks and installing new water refill stations.

    : A conjunctivitis (pink eye) outbreak in Tongatapu, has seen 135 people flocking to Vaiola Hospital this morning with confirmed symptoms of the virulent eye infection. In the last five weeks the hospital has registered more cases of conjunctivitis than for the whole of 2015.

    : A new salary structure for civil servants that was approved by the Tongan Cabinet on 13 April, to be implemented on 1 July 2016 in the new budget, has been stopped in its tracks, because the Public Service Association (PSA) claims it is unlawful. Now the pressure group may have succeeded in their demand for Cabinet to change a decision, in return for the PSA withholding a threatened injunction against the Cabinet’s approval of the new salary structure.
