    : Tonga's Deputy Commissioner of Police Taniela Faletau (56) has taken up voluntary retirement effective March 1, after over 30-years of service. Trained in New Zealand the top cop was farewelled with a parade at the Police Headquarters in Longolongo, on Wednesday February 20.

    : Australia's Department of Immigration and Citizenship in Canberra is currently investigating if any of the alleged Tonga Police records cleared in the past for Tongan citizens, have been put to the department in support of visa applications, and they will not rule out visa cancellations where a visa holder has sought to fraudulently obtain entry.

    : Tongan seasonal workers under the New Zealand Recognised Seasonal Employers program are affected by the NZ immigration minister's recent decision to hold Tongan visa applications that require police clearances. A first group of 35 workers who were due to leave for New Zealand on Monday remain on stand-by in Nuku'alofa. Another 120 workers who are scheduled to leave over the next two weeks in the height of the harvest season will also be affected by the new rule.
