    : Has North Korea’s ruler, Kim Jong-un, made a strategic decision to trade away his nuclear program, or is he just engaged in another round of deceptive diplomacy, pretending that he will denuclearize in exchange for material benefits for his impoverished country?     : The ‘Ikale Tahi were defeated by Georgia 16 – 15 in the opening round of the Pacific Nations Cup in Suva, Fiji on Saturday 9 June. Georgia's swarming defense frustrated the ‘Ikale Tahi throughout the match, and regularly forced Tonga's backline into lateral movements.

    : Tonga is finding it difficult to manage illegal dumping of rubbish, including plastic bags, in Nuku'alofa, as it celebrated World Environment Day on 5 June with the worldwide theme "Beat Plastic Pollution". Filimone Lapao’o, the Tonga goverment's Senior Environmentalist, said after Cyclone Gita, the amount of rubbish at Sopu increased so much that his department cannot manage it properly.     : Tonga's Prime Minister 'Akilisi Pohiva was accused of "dictatorial and blatant, political interference with sport” by Lord Tupou, President of the Executive Board of TASANOC on June 6, who warned the PM that if he continued to interfere and dissolves TASANOC it may result in Tonga's suspension from the Olympic movement.

    : William Clive Edwards won an appeal to dismiss a Magistrate's ruling over an unsuccessful 2012 defamation action he brought against the Kele'a and its publishers. The Lord Chief Justice on June 6 in granting Edwards's appeal said the Kele'a allegations were false and it was no excuse for 'Akilisi Pohiva to write one thing while saying that he meant to refer to something else.

    : Two men received imprisonment sentences on May 29 at the Supreme Court, after pleading guilty to possession of cannabis that included seeds found to have been germinating, possibly for cultivation.

    : The body of the Chief Engineer of the MV Tongiaki was recovered at sea in the Neiafu Harbour, Vava'u, yesterday June 5. The man's name has not been released by Tonga Police and the Friendly Island Shipping Agency (FISA) while an investigation into his death is underway. He was 48 years old from Kolonga.
