Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The National Reserve Bank of Tonga (NRBT) released its Monetary Policy Statement (MPS) for August 2024 following its approval by the Board of Directors. In collaboration with Government and other relevant stakeholders, the NRBT is introducing new financing instruments such as a concessional credit facility and a partial credit guarantee scheme to boost private sector financing towards stronger growth recovery in 2025, particularly fostering access to financing for underserved and climate change-vulnerable sectors. -

Auckland, New Zealand : A vision aid team from the School of Optometry and Vision Science at the University of Auckland will be visiting Tonga for a week from 30 September to 4 October to provide voluntary eye-care to those who need it the most. The team will be based at the Eye Health Clinic at Vaiola Hospital.

Nuku'alofa, Tonga : 'Alifeleti Uepi Latu (33) was sentenced to four years and one month imprisonment, with a part suspended, for numerous charges, which included serious housebreaking and theft of items valued at $22,750 from a house at Tofoa. The defendant was said to be an unemployed drug user who had relied on his mother's money transfers from the United States. Nuku'alofa, Tonga : The Māori King, Tuheitia Paki, crowned Te Arikinui Kiingi Tuheitia, has died peacefully on Friday morning at the age of 69, New Zealand news media reported today. Pat Conroy MP visited the MORDI Tonga Trust facilities today, one of several site visits he has made in Tongatapu, on the side of the Pacific Islands Forum leaders meeting in Nuku'alofa. Neiafu, Vava'u : Pacific Island Forum Leaders flew to Vava'u this morning on chartered flights for the Leaders Retreat Meeting of the 53rd Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting 2024, held at the Puataukanave Hotel in Neiafu.
